SUNY Buffalo State’s Art Education Department, established in 1930, administers the oldest state-sponsored art teacher education program in the nation, and offers a bachelor of fine arts, post-baccalaureate certification, and master of science in art education, as well as a minor in art therapy.
Art education students are challenged in their learning both the theory and practice of teaching art in pre-K-12 settings while fulfilling their artistry requirements, side-by-side with students in the B.A. and B.F.A. programs in Fine Arts and Design. Upon completion of the program, graduates are well prepared to teach in America’s schools and contribute to the nation’s artistic legacy through their extensive training as artists.
With alumni teaching in all 50 states and many foreign countries, the Art Education Department can boast of curriculum, faculty, and results that are truly world-class.
Art Education students who graduate from the B.F.A. Program have a competitive edge by being trained as both professional teachers and professional artists.
